What is a Sales Funnel and How Does it Work?

Are you an aspiring businessperson, or online marketer?

Do you want to know how you can massively increase your conversion rates and improve the profitability of your business without ever having to spend money on more ads?

The answer is simple: Build Funnels

What is a Sales Funnel

In short, a sales funnel is a series of connected pages designed to funnel customers into a more targeted group that are likely to buy your product or service.

Think about it like the funnels that you use in the kitchen. They are designed to funnel whatever ingredients you are using into a smaller stream that can be much more easily controlled, which allows them to fit into smaller, more specific containers.

Much like this, a sales funnel works to bring a group of highly targeted customers into your business that are much more likely to buy your products.

A sales funnel can really improve your tracking as you can track customers through each step of your funnel to see who converts the best on each offer.

You can also add sales text, and data collection to your funnel that will help you increase your conversion rate.

It is not unreasonable to see a 2x or more increase in your profits when you start using a sales funnel because sales funnels are just so powerful.

A sales funnel has two major purposes. It is meant to collect people's information (usually in the form of their email address), and provide you with an additional place to place more sales copy to help you sell your products.

Collecting leads is essential to running a profitable business as it allows you to remarket to your audience for free meaning that whatever purchases on your products or any future products that you choose to sell result in pure profit as you have a pre-targeted audience at your disposal that is free to market to.

Any additional sales copy can also increase your profit as you can add additional appeal to your merchandise.

How Does A Sales Funnel Work?

A sales funnel can be broken down into three steps:

Step 1: Hook

The first step of any good sales funnel is called the hook.

A hook is basically a free incentive that you offer to get your targeted audience into your funnel.

It can come in the form of a small free product, training, or free ebook that you can give to customers.

The purpose of this free product is to get customers into your funnel, and to incentivise them to give you their email adress in exchange for your free offer. I personally use offers that help the customer to better take advantage of the main offer as this helps to improve customer satisfaction, and decrease return rates.

If you are looking to give away free ebooks (Which is what I recommend), there are several sites including www.free-ebooks.net that give away thousands of downloadable ebooks for free. You can almost always find one that will work for your offer

Step 2: The Capture

The capture portion of your sales funnel is usually the main page of your sales funnel and it is where you use the hook to help you capture the emails of anyone passing through your funnel.

It often takes the form of a popup or similar apparatus that has the added benefit of catching the readers attention.

All it really needs is a couple simple lines and a fill in box where people can put their email address and name for you to use later in your email marketing.

Step 3: The Closing

The third and final step in the funnel process (I'm not going to go into the email marketing step because that is not part of the funnel process per se, but you can find plenty about email marketing in my other posts) is the close.

The close is an extremely simple part of the funnel as it simply involves sending the prospective customer the freebie that you promised them and then linking them through to the offer that you are trying to sell.

You can either do this by providing the free product and your main product in the final funnel page, or by linking them through to the page where your product is being sold, and sending them an email confirmation with their free content in it.

Along with this, I recommend that you add a Thank You page to help make your customers even more at home.
